How long is the artificial hip joint durable?
The implant is made of heavy-duty metals such as titanium alloy or cobalt chrome alloy and rarely breaks. However loosening between the implant and the supporting bone may cause repeat surgery. The possibility for the second operation is 0.2~2% per year and it is reported that no second operation is needed for at least 10 years. Also it is reported that young patients who are under the age of 45, those who are overweight and those who engage in physically hard work have higher possibilities.

Is MIS available for all patients with hip disease?
We had to choose the other procedure for 20% of patients before we introduced the navigation system. This system enables us to perform MIS on many patients who used to be out of indication. However, we never cling to MIS because we put the priority on the safety of patients. If we find it difficult to continue with MIS procedure, we will switch to the traditional procedure.
Is MIS available for revision, or replacement of an artificial hip joint?
Unfortunately, revision is not an indication for MIS, though we focus on avoiding muscle and bone damage as much as possible during revision.
Do you use a special implant for MIS?
No. We use the same implant both in MIS and in the traditional procedure. So we can use artificial implants which have been used for a long time and proven to be safe.
